Mental Health and Professional Burnout among Residents During the Covid-19 Pandemic: Situational and Psychological Factors

The paper presents the results of a study level and factors mental malad- justment professional burnout medical residents undergoing training at Training Center N.V. Sklifosovsky Research Institute for Emergency Medicine during second wave COVID-19 pandemic. involved 110 first year (30 men 80 women; mean age — 25.1±2.32), both working in “red zone” helping other patients. follow- ing methods were used to assess symptoms maladjustment burnout: Beck Depression Anxiety Scales (Beck et al., 1988; 1996), Maslach Burnout Inventory (Maslach & Jackson, 1981), PTSD Checklist DSM 5 (PSL-5; Weathers 2013) Distress Thermometer (Holland, Bultz, 2007), UCLA Loneliness Scale (Russell 1978) Three-Factor Perfectionism (Garanyan 2018) Toronto Alexithymia (Taylor 2003). According data, 43% young doctors noted depression moderate high severity, suicidal thoughts present 10%, heightened anxiety 30%, more than half (55%) had critically rates post-traumatic stress. About quarter respondents showed general distress (24%) all three its as- pects (emotional exhaustion 21%, depersonalization 23%, personal ac- complishment 22%).
